I have been making my Spirit Art Dolls and selling them online for the past few years, I feel so fortunate that I promised myself to start the new year by planting seeds for others to create and also to post my dolls in eBay for what I consider the minimum asking price, so with each doll I am including a couple of polymer faces for others to create their own healing doll.

I am from a long line of artists, one way or another, art has always been in my life, ever since I remember someone in my family was doing some type of art with fabric or paint.

My grandmother grew up in a convent and she learned to do all those fantastic ornamental garments for the church, later when she got married she continued to make beautiful things for her home and when her son became a priest she was always creating something for his church.

I learned to paint from my mother, and from my Nana about making rag dolls…now my 14 year old son has decided he wants to learn to make his rag dolls and dragons…well the first doll has seen the light, the dragon still in process. He designed his doll to look like his favorite super hero..:)…I had to do some of the stitching to make it stronger. I think he is going to learn fast, but mostly I would love for him to borrow a bit of what I know and to develop his own style.

I was moved this morning by the amazing work of Danny Mansmith thinking about my guy…wow, how very inspiring…are we going to have to move his room to the living room when he starts making life size dolls? I hope so.

The new year, holding the key of abundance and prosperity. The blushing doll, colored with the rusty red of passion and creativity. The dark shadows doll symbolic of things passed and memories remembered and the new year spirit…painted green for hope, with new adventures and full of possibilities.New Year customs and traditions that are followed today have their roots way back in the ancient societies where the number of harvests determined the number of new years they had. The Creek Indians celebrated New Year in July or August when the corn was ripe, which symbolized the completion of a year and the beginning of another. It was also encouraged to wear new clothes and to change the interiors of their houses as a symbol of renewal. The Iroquois, celebrated the New Year in January, February or March and they were the ones who started the conventional masquerades, the noise-making to welcome the New Year. It seems to me that the customs we follow today are modified versions of other ancient practices from many traditions all over the world.
I like to think that no matter what tradition we might follow, the intention is to remind each other that peace is the only way and love makes the journey even more meaningful.

I would like to start by wishing you a delightful New Year full of creativity and peace.

I have other blogs, perhaps too many, but the way I see it, the net has many roads where people travel and if I can start another thread, I will also meet people that otherwise I would have never met.

I am a professional artist and art teacher. although painting is my first love, assemblage and art dolls has become an essential spiritual practice. I love the process of sculpting with polymer clay and working with textiles, yarn, fibers and beading creating a context where magic begins.

I’ve been inspired by many cultures where dolls were made symbolic of the sacred, full of meaning and creativity…here there is an element of reverence and solitude that guides me gently into that type of art. It is a form of meditation…a beautiful Spirit dance.

They are one of a kind dolls, wrapped with soft cotton and yarn, supported by twigs, vines and mossy tree bark…using polymer clay, gems, shells, herbs, charms and jewelry findings.

Some represent Angels, Spirit Guides inhabiting the forest. Others are Magical Kachina
and Fetish Dolls, helpful Kitchen Witches, Divas and Goddesses…Icons of the Divine Feminine, a kind of Spirit Inspired ritualistic art from many ancient traditions.
